PROJECT OVERVIEW
A New Gymnasium Color Scheme Built for High-Traffic Durability
DRL Coatings completed the preparation and repainting of existing CMU and tile surfaces throughout the Putnam North Small Gymnasium in Oklahoma City.
The project included approximately 6,500 SF of existing CMU and tile walls, along with painting of hollow metal doors and frames, to introduce a new color scheme throughout the gymnasium.
Because tile surfaces along the lower walls are exposed to frequent contact and high-traffic use, the project required careful surface preparation and a coating approach capable of providing reliable adhesion and long-term durability.

THE CHALLENGE
Adhesion on Existing Tile
The primary challenge was achieving proper paint adhesion and long-term durability on the existing wall tile located along the lower portion of the gymnasium.
Because these surfaces are exposed to a high-traffic environment, the coating system needed to perform reliably on the existing tile while providing a durable finish capable of handling frequent use.
OUR SOLUTION
Surface-Specific Preparation & Coating
DRL Coatings evaluated and properly prepared the existing CMU walls and tile surfaces before painting.
A coating system specifically suited for the existing tile was selected to provide strong adhesion and increased durability in the high-traffic lower wall areas.
The work was also carefully coordinated to create a consistent color transition and uniform finish across both CMU and tile surfaces throughout the gymnasium.
THE RESULT
DRL Coatings successfully completed the gymnasium color change while achieving proper adhesion and a durable finish on the existing tile surfaces.
The finished project provided a uniform and consistent appearance across both CMU and tile walls and was completed safely and according to schedule.
